Updated: Apr 10, 2022

Spring is here! With the weather warming up, now is the time to get your landscaping done, lay sod, and get your yard looking pristine! Tee Bar Sod Farms is ready to delivery top quality sod in Edmonton and surrounding areas! But, before laying sod, there are some very important steps to take to prepare your soil so that your sod takes root. In this post, we have some tips to help you get rid of weeds before laying sod so that your lawn can flourish.

Roundup Weed Killer

If you decide to use a strong chemical weed killer like Roundup, you will have to wait at least 11 days after the last application before laying the new sod. Remove Large Weeds from Existing or New Soil

In the spring, you may lay sod on the dirt or soil that was prepared in the fall. Weeds tend to grow during the intervening months and should be removed before laying sod. Or, you could be replacing your existing grass and replacing it with new sod grass in the spring. Large weeds around the soil need to be pulled, but they do not need to be sprayed unless they are dominating the new soil. Any weeds that are ¼ inch or smaller are fine as long they aren’t completely covering the soil intended for the sod, as the new sod will cut off their oxygen supply.
